First stop: THE COLOSSEUM

Drop your bags at the hotel, freshen up, and then get ready to sightsee!  Of all the sights in Rome, why did we choose the Colosseum?  Well first of all, how could we not... and secondly, it had to do with timing. By the time we dropped our bags off, it was a matter of finding out what was actually open. Lucky for us the Colosseum wasn't closed yet!! (click here for official website info & opening/closing hours) We arrived around 5:00pm to buy our tickets (12 EUR /pp) and thankfully there wasn't a long line. There was plenty of time to walk around and enjoy this beautiful arena, before heading over to the Roman Forum/Palatine Hill... which by the way your Colosseum ticket allows you access for FREE (just be there before the last entry time). Sweet deal!

*Update: The Colosseum has now open their top levels to the public!! Read more here

At the Roman Forum/Palatine Hill is where I found one of Rome's most gorgeous views!!

The next morning was an early one... with one goal in mind, and that was to see the Sistine Chapel! :)

Most people who visit Vatican City, usually spend the entire day walking around... I had ONE HOUR!  The Museum opened at 9am, and our train was scheduled to leave at 11am and we still needed to pick up our bags at the hotel first. (Official Vatican Museum website & info here) By the time I walked through the doors, after purchasing a "skip the line" ticket, it was already around 9:20am.  Let me just say, this museum is HUGE!! It took me almost 30 minutes just to find the Sistine Chapel, of course trying to appreciate the other art works along my walk (you can see pictured below).

I reached the Sistine Chapel around 10am, and spent the next 30minutes breaking my neck staring at the GORGEOUS CEILING that Michelango himself painted.  Feeling simultaneously overwhelmed and blessed.

(NO cameras were allowed inside the Sistine Chapel, so out of respect for the Museum, I followed those rules and the painting will forever be engraved in my memory until I get to visit Rome again.)

We went, we saw, we conquered!
