trash to treasure

If you're like me, then you LOVE candles!  But you also don't like that empty, sad container, after your smell good candle has burned it's life span.

I FOUND A QUICK SOLUTION!

My mother and I go through candles like no-ones business Lol. We had so many different types of containers left over that instead of throwing them in the trash, I wanted to up-cycle them.  I decided to turn them into plant pots!  It's easy, fun, cheap and I really feel like I'm getting my money's worth with some of these expensive candles we buy.

Here is what you will need:

  • Spray paint
  • Potting soil
  • Gravel (depending on plant)
  • Plants of your choice
  • Hot Glue gun (optional)
  • Sizzors (optional)
  • Rope, string, or ribbon (optional)

I wanted to create something simple, but cohesive.  I picked 3 different empty jars that were laying around the house, used spray paint from my dad's garage, and bought some twine that was on sale at the craft store.  Since my partner and I are in the middle of building a Tiny House together, I chose plants that we wanted for the bathroom area... Cacti & Succulents!

FREE TIP:  to get the remaining candle wax out from the bottom of jar, freeze the entire jar first before trying to remove it.  Makes this 10 times easier!

I'm so happy with how this DIY tiny project turned out! Best part is I reduced waste, and only spent approximately $13.

*the jar on the right has NOT been spray painted.. that is because I wanted to see the actual soil.
